Meet our Team!

Dr. Sarah E. Shelton
Principal Investigator | Assistant Professor
She earned her B.S. in Environmental Sciences and M.S. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She went on to complete her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering through the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering working on vascular imaging in cancer. Dr. Shelton began developing vascular microphysiological systems during her postdoc at MIT at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She rejoined the Lampe Joint BME department as faculty in 2023, also as a member of the Translational Predictive Biology Cluster. Outside of the lab, she enjoys experimenting with new creative hobbies and is learning how to knit.

Dr. Angelo Massaro
Postdoctoral Scholar
Angelo earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University and he completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of Washington. As a postdoc, his research focuses on building innovative in vitro models that faithfully mimic human physiology. Outside of the lab, Angelo enjoys trail running, cycling, and cooking.

Will Blackledge
Graduate Student
He is a second year Ph.D. Student in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. He earned his B.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh in April 2024. His research interests involve studying cancer-associated fibroblast subtypes and designing novel organ-on-chip microphysiological systems. Outside of the lab, he enjoys biking, swimming, eating ice cream, and cheering for Philadelphia sports teams (Go Birds!)

Evan Carroll
Graduate Student
He is a first year Ph.D. Student in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. He earned his B.S. in Bioengineering from Hofstra University in New York in May 2025. His current work seeks to replicate complex tumor microenvironments to overcome barriers limiting Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell therapy in prostate cancer. Outside the lab, Evan composes, produces, and publishes original music and enjoys thrifting and neighborhood promenades.

Sarah Gullion
Undergraduate Student
She is currently pursuing her B.S. in Textile Sciences and Engineering with a concentration in Medical Textiles at North Carolina State University.
Nicolas Anzola
Undergraduate Student
He is currently pursuing a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. Nico is an Abrams Scholar working to determine how cancer-associated fibroblasts remodel extracellular matrix.

Shania Dantes
Undergraduate Student
She is currently pursuing her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor of Brewing Science and Technology in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. Outside the lab, she likes trying new things anywhere for desserts to rock climbing with her girlies.
